Wow. I’m glad to have stumbled on this post.

I think it is ridiculous how people rip on Twilight. Bottom line, SHE IS MAKING THE MONEY. Are you? I'm not being paid like she is.

If it was all crap like so many of the posts I read say it is, how the H#@$ could she be making money???

Oh, and I have read worse.

I'm not even sure if jealousy is the right word... Ignorance sounds more like it. Therefore, before people bash someone else’s work, they should take a hard look at their own. Have they published novel a series? Have they had it turned into a VERY profitable series of movies? I doubt any of us have.

For someone with such poor literary skills, she sure did something right.

Thanks for the heads up Sandyer! I couldn't find where his version of it was but Wow...I mean truly Wow... I've finally been named as 'a screenwriter' - how great is that? ...Presumably from someone who doesn't even like me - so that's really cool!

I confess I did stuff up on the name as I just used the name from the top of the Blog....so apologies to the real JW ... But ...Yay....did I mention I'm a screenwriter!!!! LOL

Talent = Money?

Well I've got neither so I'd settle for 'No talent' = 'Lots of Money' any day....

Paula

P.s I was having a particularly bad day the day I wrote those comments - But I still stand by what I said! So There....

(Me a screenwriter...skips off into the sunshine.....)

I completely disagree with you, Sean. When someone produces a product and another person pays for the product with his/her hard-earned money, I believe he or she has some right to say whether or not the product purchased was worth the money spent for it. As a fiction writer, I would think one's goal would be to produce a product that was entertaining for the people, who purchase the product. Unfortunately, for me, Twilight was not entertaining in any way. Take a look at her Amazon.com reviews. She as A LOT of negative reviews. I'm not the only one "bashing" her book. A lot of customers who purchased her book were just as unhappy with their purchases. And you don't have to take my word for it - have a look at what Stephen King has said about her writing. Surely, you don't think he is "ignorant" or "jealous" of her. King is a far more prolific and successful writer. You may not think I have the "right" to be critical of another author because my published works haven't made me a millionaire but King's have!

Sorry, I never said you don't have a right to your own opinion BUT let us look at the facts.

1: Her books sold and are still selling.
2: The movie made money and I would imagine that the rest of them would also make money.

Personally, I see her writing very fitting for a large population of the teens today. I think she keeps the writing simple. Not everyone likes a story fattened with big words.

I love Stephen King but his opinion means little to me. What does matter is that her works sold and are still selling.

I can understand the bad reviews, BUT again, her works sell. I think it is because if her simplistic style that they sell.

Please keep in mind, I don't think she is the greatest writer in the world by any means, I just think that she has a style that young adults find extremely easy to follow and obviously so do many other people or she would not have sold so many copy's.

My novel was picked up by Levine Greenberg Literary Agency (If you are a novelist you should know who they are). I write in a very simplistic form for my YA novels. If I can land an agency like LG with a similar style, I would say there must be something to it.

I think everyone is entitled to their opinion and respect yours BUT I do not necessarily have to agree with you. Nor do you have to agree with me

Great topic by the way

Hey kudos SeanLynch - congrats, that's no easy feat.

I'm not concerned if I buy a book and don't like it. I don't generally feel the need to tell everyone I think it was trash. I simply vote with my money and buy something else next time - and don't go near the next book by that author.

Obviously a vast majority of people didn't feel that way about the Twilight series. And not just teenagers. Is that a pack mentality....maybe. But on the other hand it shouldn't be personally offensive to anyone who didn't like the books. People have different tastes, that's all there is to it.

But on the theme - and to give you all a laugh, if you have the time here's a great spoof on the appeal of Twilight to non teenage women. I got a laugh anyway....but then that's just my opinion....

To loosely quote one of my Twilight bashing friends.

"I hate it, I hate it, I hate it. Stephanie Meyer should go die in a hole. Her books are epic fail and Bella needs to stop being such an idiot. But damn it's a suspenseful read. Oh and I hate Breaking Dawn. Go Die Stephanie Meyer"

That's basically the entirety of an entire semester worth of conversations/rants revolving around Twilight in my journalism class (so that makes it about 20 hours of torture for me) summed up in a line

I can't stand Twilight for many reasons. But I'm not jealous, ignorant and I don't see the appeal people like about it, but if you do that is wonderful. Its great she made money on books and movies.

My daughter devours every square inch of the books. She thinks they're the golden second coming of literature. Good for her. I don't agree with my own daughter.
